Simulacras and music

This was written as I was walking through IV O went to two different backyard concerts one punk one more metal the following is a stream of conciousness account of my observations: I am at a punk “concert” in a back yard observing the appropriation of images and its matriculation. The body language and physical presence of the preformers is a copy of that of mainstream preformers. The very nature of creative expression is coffined by thr signifiers that they have been conditioned to display, in order to create the notion of authenticity. It isn’t that their own music is unoriginal that is the problem, their composition or their tallent. They are preforming without any sort of filters or audio correction common in so many mainstream preformances. If most garage music begins as an imitation of the music that inspires its preformers, then I have to wonder at what point such music evolves into something unique enough to be destinguished as original. Another note is audience participation, the last few generations concert behavior has been informed by what is view in media. Behaviorial conditioning occurs before people are ever even experentially exposed to live music. A particular example iss that of the disney manufactured musicians. Performers that are teens, designed to appeal to early and preteens. These preformers are designed to not only turn a profit, but to condition people to become future consumers of mainstream content. More later…

We are other people's memories.

And they are our memories.
